Wine Notes | Koerner Leko Rouge combining pinot noir, sangiovese, merlot, syrah, mencia and gamay. Rouge, indeed. Lighter, fresher expression with soft texture, silky and plush with some sweet, pretty perfume and red berry fruit character. A lively, crisp finish to keep things refreshing. Beautiful, revitalising, brisk and crisp red wine. |

Koerner Wine is a partnership between brothers Damon and Jonathan Koerner. The wines are produced from fruit grown in the Watervale area of the Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills, with the majority coming from the family vineyard. Gullyview vineyard has been owned and managed by their parents, (Christine & Anthony Koerner), for the past 38 years. The Koerner Leko Rouge is part of the new breed of wines coming from the talented duo.
The winemaking philosophy is very simple – that is the wines are made in the vineyard. The Koerner’s pick early and use very hands-off winemaking techniques. As a result, the wines are light, fresh, textured and well-structured with high drinkability in mind.
The Koerner brothers truly bridge the gap between tradition and the natural wine movement. There is a family heritage with the fruit coming from well established 40 year old family owned vineyards. However, experimentation with plantings of some more adventurous Mediterranean varieties has bolstered this in recent times. The fruit is treated with minimal intervention, thus creating a new genre of wines not seen from the Clare Valley or Adelaide Hills before. The Koerner Leko Rouge from the Adelaide Hills encapsulates this new wave of minimal intervention wines.
